re-purpose, re-use and transform existing structures

the existing dwelling had been added to as money became available throughout the client's ownership of the building to facilitate family life - the time came to re-use parts of the existing structure to form the basis of a more energy efficient and updated dwelling house to meet the future  

re-using all existing ground floor walls - the new scheme removed all the existing roof types and pitches and replaced them with a new first floor and roof structure - all the new first floor walls were constructed to improve the outlook from the dwelling and through the use of natural daylighting, solar gain, thermal mass and improved insulation levels transform the existing dwelling.   

flexible approach to budgetary limitations throughout construction phase 

challanging trading conditions during construction phase required the self-building client to make alterations to the scope of windows in the new building - these changes were accomodated without affecting the overall functionality of the final construction

early stage 3D visualisation is a vital tool for client understanding

3D visualisation through sketching and modelling can allow the client a full understanding of how the building will look in context - including where natural light and shadows will play upon the structure in real world conditions at any time of the year.
